Background

History of FASTPASS
First introduced in 1999 as a way to reduce long wait times and manage crowd flow in the park

Guests scanned their Theme Park Ticket and received a paper ticket with a 1-hour window to return for a shorter wait time

The Theme Park Ticket scanner also checks if the Guest is eligible for another FASTPASS selection
FastPass+ is introduced
FastPass+ introduced the ability to book selections online up to 60 days in advance in 2012

The initial version automatically selected times for Guests to make things more efficient, but it made it difficult for precise planning with other plans and reservations

Timeline

My Role

I was Lead Interaction Designer with a team of 6 Designers for a year and a half of development. I was in charge Web, Mobile Web, and Touch Screen Kiosk. The ladder provided a unique challenge of working with older touch screen technology that didn't support gestures.

The goal was to provide Guests with transparency and clarity on available inventory and booking rules. We also wanted to bring our new App Style Guide to other platforms for consistency. So I needed to coordinate with the style guide team to ensure we met expectations while expanding the guide for web layouts and interactions.

Because guests could now select their own times, we had to then enforce booking rules, which required the development of new pages that provided context and solutions for each conflict.
