Timeline

My Role

I was Lead Interaction Designer with one Visual Designer for 2 years of development. I was in charge of adapting the interaction from Walt Disney World in Florida to Disneyland in California.

Disneyland wanted Native App only, no Web or Mobile Web booking. Disneyland also wanted to be able to change rules without a code release, so multiple scenarios were delivered in design and the build. Disneyland still used barcodes and paper tickets instead of MagicBand.

This project also introduced Monetization to FastPass for the first time. Disney charged for the ability to make FASTPASS selections from your phone. Paper FASTPASS was still available for free, but it required Guests to walk to the ride to retrieve physical tickets. At launch, MaxPass cost $10 per person and came with ride photos for the day.

Exploring Barcodes

Disneyland still used Barcodes
So we explored the size and position on the phone
But failed to scan when placed near scanner
Large Barcodes worked on the tray
Small Barcodes worked on the tray
And worked when placed near the scanner
Photography was added to capture the spirit of each Attraction
Physical Scanners were later redesigned to work with the phone barcode design
